Warwickshire Ladies Veterans League - Rules
Set: 04-12-2023

1
The league shall be organised by Warwickshire LTA. Owing to problems with ball supplies, please just choose a suitable type.

2
All competitors must be aged 40 or over on Dec 31 in the year in which the competition starts. For those who become 40 in 2024, they may not play in 2023 but they may play after Jan 1 2024. They must be paid-up members of the club they represent.

3
Any player may play for only one club during each season. For clubs with more than one team in the league, any player having already played in more than two matches for a higher ranking team shall not play for a lower ranking team during the same season. A member of a lower ranking team may play for a higher ranking team irrespective of the number of times she has played for the lower ranking team.

4
The team will consist of two pairs. Each pair will play both of the opposing pairs in two sets with tie breaks being played at 6 all in both sets. Again this season, no final tie break will be played if the score is ‘set all’.

5
Matches shall be played on the given day unless the weather intervenes or the courts are unfit. The league secretary shall be notified of any rearrangements. Matches can be played outdoors or indoors and floodlights can be used.

6
One point will be scored for each rubber won. League positions will be determined in the first instance by the number of points won. When teams have an equal number of points, the positions shall be decided by the difference in sets won and, if still equal, the difference in games won.

7
The winners of Division One shall be the champions of the league and receive a trophy. The top two teams in Divisions Two, Three and Four will be promoted and the bottom two teams in Divisions One, Two and Three will be relegated.

8
Play shall commence at the appointed time unless previously agreed otherwise. If the time is not shown on the fixture list, it is 1pm. If a pair is more than 30 minutes late, their opponents may claim one 6-0 set. If a pair is more than 45 minutes late, their opponents may claim the rubber.

9
If a match is interrupted because of weather and needs to be continued at a later date, it shall be resumed at the point of interruption. Substitutes are permitted for such rearrangements, with the agreement of both captains and the league secretary, and any rubber in which substitutes are used must be continued from the point of interruption. The league secretary can refuse a choice of substitute if that player is deemed to be too strong. If a rubber is interrupted because of injury, the pair which has to stop can retain the games and sets they have won but shall concede the remaining games and sets and any unplayed rubbers. For example, if you are 6-3, 4-2 up and have to stop because of injury, the 6-3 score stands but the opposition takes the next set 6-4. If a match needs to be rearranged, just agree a new date and time and play it before March 31st 2024, advising the league secretary in the process. For example, if an October match is called off due to icy courts, it can be played as late as March 31st. There is no requirement on the home captain to provide a limited number of dates - just come to an agreement.

10
Either the home or away team can enter or confirm results. If a match is incomplete, the league secretary shall be contacted.

11
The season should be completed by the final date shown on the fixture list but, with the agreement of the league secretary, extensions will be allowed in the case of bad weather or exceptional circumstances. There will be no extensions beyond March 31st 2024 unless there are exceptional circumstances.

12
In case of Covid-19 issues, the league secretary should be contacted. Teams facing isolation problems should make every effort to find substitutes for their forthcoming matches and should send one pair if they cannot send two.
