Rugby & District Lawn Tennis Summer League - Rules

League name and management
1 . a   
The League shall be named The Rugby and District Lawn Tennis Summer League.
Membership
1 . b   
Membership of the League is open to all tennis clubs in Rugby and surrounding districts who are affiliated to their appropriate County LTA. Applications are subject to approval of the League Committee.
Organising body
1 . c   
The League will be managed by the Rugby and District Lawn Tennis League Committee.
League committee
1 . c . (i)   
The League Committee shall consist of at least 3 representatives from different member Clubs. The Committee members will cover the roles and responsibilities of Chair, Fixtures Secretary, Treasurer and Secretary. Members of the Committee will be elected at the AGM.
Contact details
1 . d   
Members of the Committee, Club Administrators and Team captains must maintain correct contact details with the Secretary and publish these on MyDivision.
Annual General Meeting
1 . e   
An Annual General Meeting shall be held each year. A representative of each Club shall be invited to the AGM by the Committee Secretary. All members of Clubs may attend this meeting and contribute to discussions but each Club shall have one vote only.
Team entry fee
1 . f   
Each club shall pay a subscription fee for each team entered in a division of the League. The fee will be agreed at the AGM and is to be paid prior to the commencement of the first match played by that team. A Club who fails to pay the full amount before the first match will be referred to the League Committee who may decide on any course of action up to and including expelling the Club from the League.
League format
2 . a   
All Summer League matches shall be played between 1 May and 30 September. All Winter League matches shall be played between 1 October and 30 April.
Divisions
2 . b   
The League shall consist of one or more divisions for Mens Doubles, Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The number of teams in each division for the Summer season to be decided at the AGM. The number of teams in each division for the Winter season to be decided at a meeting prior to the commencement of that season.
Fixture schedule
2 . c   
The format of the fixtures for the Summer season shall be decided at the AGM. The format of the fixtures for the Winter season shall be decided at a meeting of members prior to the commencement of that season. The provisional fixtures will then be sent by the Fixtures Secretary to each club and confirmed by the relevant Team captains before the start of the season.
Match dates and start times
2 . d   
Matches may be played any day or evening. Each team must nominate their preferred home day and start time when submitting their application.
Rearranging fixtures
2 . e   
Any Team needing to rearrange a fixture date must give the opposition at least 7 days notice, unless the opposing team agrees otherwise, and notify the Fixtures secretary. In the event of a team not giving 7 days notice the offending team will forfeit the match.
Matches Courts
3 . a . (i)   
The Home club shall provide two courts for each match. The League Committee will consider applications from clubs with one court. All courts are subject to inspection by the League Committee and all grounds shall be open to League officials whilst matches are in progress.
Balls
3 . a . (ii)   
The Home club shall provide new balls for each match and the balls must be authorised by their County LTA.
Match format
3 . b   
Teams shall be two pairs in the Ladies, Mens and Mixed divisions. Each pair will play two sets with a normal tiebreak (first to 7 points and 2 points clear) at 6-6 against each opposing pair.
3 . c . (i)   
Any pair not ready to commence play 15 minutes after the match start time will forfeit the first set to love.
Player retirement
3 . d . (ii)   
Any player retiring before the end of a match will forfeit that set and any other unplayed sets. The retiring pair will retain the games they have won e.g. a pair wins the first set 6-2 and it is 3-3 in the second set when injury forces a retirement so the match score is recorded as 6-2 3-6.
Unfinished matches
3 . e   
Unfinished matches shall not be abandoned unless conditions are unfit to play. The Home captain shall decide on the fitness of conditions and inform the Fixtures Secretary within 24 hours of a decision against play and the reasons for such a decision. Close of play scores must be submitted for unfinished matches. The Visiting team shall not refuse to play or continue a match but may lodge a complaint against any decision by the Home captain under this rule with the Fixtures Secretary within 24 hours of the close of play. The Fixtures Secretary will investigate and present their findings to the League Committee who shall rule. The Committee's ruling shall be communicated to both teams and their clubs and shall be final.
Finishing an unfinished match
3 . f . (i)   
Cancelled and unfinished matches shall be played on the original ground within 8 weeks but before the season's end whichever is sooner. The score at abandonment shall be carried forward to the new match date unless both captains agree at the original meeting to replay a match from start and have advised the Fixtures Secretary of such an agreement.
3 . f . (ii)   
Teams can use an eligible substitute to complete a match providing there are no objections from the opposition. The Team captain intending to play a substitute must notify the opposition at least 24 hours before the new match date. In this situation the set must be restarted.
3 . g   
No one match is allowed to count for both home and away results.
Player eligibility
4 . a   
A player may not play for more than one Club in a League during the season. However, they may play for more than one Club in different leagues e.g. Ladies and Mixed.
4 . b   
Players who normally play for the lower of the teams entered by a club are allowed to play two games for the higher team/teams without rendering themselves ineligible for the lower team.
Penalty for fielding an ineligible player
4 . c   
Clubs playing an ineligible player shall forfeit all sets in which that player played.
Match results and league position
5 . a   
The Home captain shall submit the result on MyDivision.com within 24 hours of the end of play, whether the match was finished or unfinished. The Away captain shall confirm the result on MyDivision.com within 48 hours of a match finishing.
Match scoring
5 . b   
One point will be awarded for each set won.
League position
5 . c   
League position will be decided by sets won followed by games difference.
Promotion and relegation
5 . d   
At the conclusion of each season the top team/teams in a lower division to be promoted and the bottom team/teams in a higher division relegated. If more than five teams are in the higher division then two teams will be promoted and relegated, else one team will be promoted and relegated.
Complaints and disputes
7   
Any complaint or dispute shall be referred to the Fixtures secretary who shall take it before the Committee for a decision. Club players and officials may be called to testify before the Committee.


Updates to League rules
8   
The Committee shall have the power to call an emergency meeting of member clubs to add or amend rules.
